Anusha Shivram

As a first-year student myself, I strongly believe that if you feel something is lacking, you can be the change to fill that space. There are resources and people ready to help you. Be open and welcoming to new experiences, and enjoy your university journey!

What advice would you give to a first-year student on how to be more involved on campus?

As I plan events and work with other leaders, I have realised the importance of being open to advice. The different perspectives of those around me can lead to various opportunities for growth both personally and for the club.

What lessons have you learned from your involvement on campus?

I started the Indian Culture and Dance Club to create a space on campus that allowed students from all backgrounds to learn and explore Indian traditions and celebrations. Indian Dance provides a platform for UBCO students to step out of their comfort zones and learn various dance forms from different cultural backgrounds. Most importantly, I started the club so students have a space where they feel welcome and can meet others with similar interests.
